DENIS HENMI, LEED AP, NCARB / President & CEO Denis brings more than 35 years of experience and extensive knowledge of the complex issues concerning building in an urban environment. Denis has served as project principal for many of Kwan Henmi’s multifamily housing, civic, and transportation projects. He is presently leading the final architectural design effort for the $1.6 billion dollar Central Subway project in San Francisco.

SYLVIA KWAN, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C / Chairman Sylvia Kwan founded Kwan Henmi Architecture/Planning in 1980 with a commitment to the success of her clients and the realization of their design objectives. Her balance of architectural design expertise paired with her strong communication and leadership skill has enabled Kwan Henmi to have a 36-year legacy within the community of San Francisco. 

SYLVIA KWAN, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C / Chairman

Sylvia Kwan founded Kwan Henmi Architecture/Planning in 1980 with a commitment to the success of her clients and the realization of their design objectives. Her balance of architectural design expertise paired with her strong communication and leadership skill has enabled Kwan Henmi to have a 36-year legacy within the community of San Francisco.

ROBERT JANSEN, AIA / Principal Robert is a gifted architect who leads Kwan Henmi's Transportation department. With a Danish influence,  he brings his worldly perspective to Kwan Henmi. Robert thrives in the most complex of project environments. Because of his expertise on transportation projects, he is very familiar with coordinating with local government agencies, including BART, SFO, SFMTA, and VTA.

ROBERT JANSEN, AIA / Principal

JASON TRAN, LEED AP / Principal

Jason leads the KH Commercial design team, with 20 years of experience on all phases of the design and construction process. His extensive background on commercial projects includes leading tenant improvement and interiors projects. He specializes in project and construction document management, and providing creative solutions to complex projects with demanding schedules and tight budgets.

IGOR GOLDBURT / CFO Igor obtained his MBA from Golden Gate University with an emphasis in Accounting/Economics and Finance. . IGOR GOLDBURT / CFO

Igor obtained his MBA from Golden Gate University with an emphasis in Accounting/Economics and Finance. . Igor directs and coordinates all of the organization’s financial and budget activities inorder to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency. With a strong business acumen and a true passion for client development, Igor takes Kwan Henmi to new heights.

His passions include advocating for the development of high-quality, affordable housing and creating high-performance educational environments.

Since joining KH in 1998, he has worked on a broad range of projects including leading large educational and multi-family housing projects. JOSEPH CHANCE, AIA Joseph has been associated with Kwan Henmi for 20 years, most recently as Director of Housing Design. He lends his 40+ years of experience in all types of multifamily housing to most, if not all, of the firm's residential projects. He brings extensive knowledge into planning and initial density studies for residential projects, as well as into the design of residential unit plans.

He lends his 40+ years of experience in all types of multifamily housing to most, if not all, of the firm's residential projects. He brings extensive knowledge into planning and initial density studies for residential projects, as well as into the design of residential unit plans.

DEBBIE LIN Debbie brings over 8 years of design experience in a broad range of large-scale domestic and international commercial and mixed-use projects.  She’s a well-rounded designer whose process emphasizes both rationality and beauty, as well as focuses on the experiential quality of spaces.  She received her undergraduate degree at Princeton and a master of architecture at Columbia.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, exploring nature, finding inner peace and French bulldogs!

Debbie brings over 8 years of design experience in a broad range of large-scale domestic and international commercial and mixed-use projects.  She’s a well-rounded designer whose process emphasizes both rationality and beauty, as well as focuses on the experiential quality of spaces.  She received her undergraduate degree at Princeton and a master of architecture at Columbia.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, exploring nature, finding inner peace and French bulldogs!

Jeanette also teaches dancing, leads hikes, and judges baking contests in the office.

Growing up in a family of architects and structural engineers, Manja recognizes opportunities for contextual design within the social fabric and urban renewal early on. Manja's experience includes residential, mixed-use, retail and cultural projects.

She is the design lead in KH's LEED buildings.

Susan is a leader in the sustainability field and an active participant in the green building movement who contributes expertise to the design, construction, operations and maintenance of buildings and neighborhoods that save energy, use fewer resources, reduce pollution, and contribute to healthier environments for their occupants and the community. She is the design lead in KH's LEED buildings.

TAKARA TADA Takara has a dual Masters degree from the University of Michigan in Architecture + Urban Design and a Doctor of Architecture degree from the University of Hawaii. Upon graduating, Takara worked at an award-winning Midtown Manhattan firm with a large not-for-profit client base. During that time, she developed the micro-studio apartment featured at the Museum of the City of New York Making Room Exhibition.

AMELIE KELLER With a master's degree in architecture from the Savannah College of Art & Design, Amélie-Phaine is in constant pursuit of new knowledge and experience. Always looking for ways to engage in the local community, she is the associate director for the AIASF board of directors, and former chair of Bay Area Young Architects. Amelie is also on the AIA California Counsel Board in the year 2015-2016.

With a master's degree in architecture from the Savannah College of Art & Design, Amélie-Phaine is in constant pursuit of new knowledge and experience. Always looking for ways to engage in the local community, she is the associate director for the AIASF board of directors, and former chair of Bay Area Young Architects. Amelie is also on the AIA California Counsel Board in the year 2015-2016.

Originally from Tijuana, Mexico, he embraces an identity that transcends borders by reimagining them as a starting point for dialogue. He earned a BArch from CCA and a MS.AAD at Columbia University. In addition, he is currently teaching on the agency of art and design at the boundary between nations.

MAI THANH BUI / Marketing + Business Development Mai brings a wide background in marketing, design, customer service and administration. She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and studied abroad at Seoul National University. Building relationships and connecting with people comes natural to her. On her spare time, she enjoys fitness activities such as yoga and rock climbing. And wine!

MAI THANH BUI / Marketing + Business Development

Mai brings a wide background in marketing, design, customer service and administration. She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and studied abroad at Seoul National University. Building relationships and connecting with people comes natural to her. On her spare time, she enjoys fitness activities such as yoga and rock climbing. And wine!
